Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about Google Apps and its use by students at CSH.
What is Google Apps?
Google Apps is a collection of Google's web application that have been linked together for use by organizations, such as schools. Web applications comprising Google Apps includes Gmail and Google Docs.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
Talk to one of your teachers or the school office. They will then contact me (Mr. Whitmer) to reset your password. You can also have one of your parents contact me by email (david.whitmer@cshk12.org).
How can I check my school email from home?
a) Go to Google's web site (www.google.com), click the Gmail/Mail link in the upper left area of the web page, and then sign in with your school email address & password.
b) Go to mail.cshk12.org and sign in with your username & password. (Your username is the part of your email address to the left of the "@" sign.)
There are also links to the school Gmail web site from this Calvary Students web site, and from the school's main web site.
I already have my own personal email address, and I want to have my school email go there. How can I do that?
Sign in to your school Gmail,
go into its Settings,
then Forwarding settings, and
click the "Add a forwarding address" button.
You'll then be asked for information about the email address you want your school email forwarded to.
You should also check out Google's instructions at "Forwarding mail to another email account automatically".
Can the school read my email messages?
No. Should we?
Remember that your email account is owned by the school, and has been provided to aid you with school work and school-related commmunication. It is not your personal email account.
The school may suspend your account if we discover you have done anything inappropriate or illegal with your account (such as sending threatening email messages). If your account is suspended, you then may be unable to complete assignments. (This would be in addition to any other disciplinary action taken by the school.) We can also, if necessary, easily change your password to give us access to your email messages.
I received an email message that threatened me or made me feel uneasy. What should I do?
First, tell your parents. Then ask them to contact the school.
What happens to my school email account when I graduate or transfer to another school?
First, you need to download or export out of your school Google Apps whatever you want to keep. Once your account is deleted, all those email messages and files are deleted, too, and cannot be undeleted. Check Google's Data Liberation web site for help with downloading anything you want to keep.
Second, two weeks after you graduate/transfer, your account will be suspended. That means you won't be able to sign in, but your email, etc, will still be there. Your account is suspended to provide some leeway in case you realized there was something you still needed to save.
Third, two weeks after your account was suspended, it will be deleted. This process will automatically delete all email messages, Google Docs files, and anything else associated with your school email account. Once deleted, it cannot be undeleted.
Please be aware that once your school email account has been deleted, any web application linked to that email address will probably stop letting you sign in with that email address. This would include any Google-related application, including those included with Google Apps (such as Blogger).
